from:By now, everybody knows the social network called Facebook. It began in 1994 in Harvard University by a small group of students as a way of interacting with each other. Shortly, it began to increase in popularity and became the most popular networking site with more than 120 million users all around the world.
So why is Facebook so popular? What does it offer?
Firstly, it is a very good opportunity to meet friends and discuss with people all around the glob. We can even find lost friends through this website or people we lost track of.
All you need to do is to set up your personal account with the full name, e-mail address, a date of birth and a password.
After that, you will need to fill in the details of your profile. Write there your interests, the relationship status, your experiences and other person details. This will help the others have an idea about you and interact with you. If you don’t want your personal information to be seen by everybody, use the privacy settings.
You can make some parts of your profile private. You can even change the settings of the page if you want.
The most used way of interacting with your friends is by writing on the wall.
You can leave messages for your friends there. They will read those and answer back on your own wall. Also, other people that go on to your profile page can see what your friends wrote.
Besides that you can send private messages, just like the e-mails.
Another way of interaction is the chat room. Friends that are online at the same time can discuss which each other in real time.
The chats are just like the ones provided by Yahoo or Google Talk. They can be used in the same way.
In conclusion, there are many options of interactions to choose from. You can select one depending on your needs. Besides that, there are many online communities for different interests and areas of interests and you can join them. If somebody has added a new photo or video, you will see it. It is easier to have information coming your way rather than the other way around.
In addition, on your profile page you add videos and photos. Set privacy setting depending on your level of comfort. Also, you can tag photos with you in them or tag your friends. If a person tags a photo it means it will appear on his profile too. This doesn’t mean photo sharing.
You can untag the photo if you want, whenever you want.
Besides regular people, Facebook crated a special platform for the public personalities or business units. They too can be a part of Facebook and they can increase their popularity through this community. The companies can popularize their products and send messages, photos or videos. The users can interact with them by sending them messages, public or private on the Facebook profile.
