As marketing and design become more advanced online, people and companies try getting domain names that are descriptive as possible for their sites. The more popular the domain name, the better it's suited for search engines, which will send it more traffic.
However, don't make the mistake that so many people do, in believing that a good name will automatically get you to the top of the search engine results for that term. It does help a lot, but it's not the only thing you need to do. Besides looking at the domain name, search engines will also analyze the pages on your site and see what they're about. You need to optimize the site and use content rich in keywords that you target if you want a site to get visitors.

The most important thing you need to do if you want your site to be optimized is to target your pages on the site towards a certain topic. Since you want people that are looking for a specific thing to come to you, optimize the site for those keywords. You can also use similar words or synonyms that people might use in your articles.

The domain name is what represents your site online, so pick a name that is attractive, so people will remember it easily. Having a domain name that contains your main keywords is a good way to let people and search engines know what it's about. The first thing that a search engine will look at is the domain name of the site, so it's important for the name to be relevant to what you're offering on the site.

If people are looking for a certain keyword and it's in the domain name, then it helps to have it. But you can't use all your relevant keywords in a domain name, so that task is left to the content. Your content should be optimized for the keywords that you're targetting, even those that are not in the name of the domain. Create pages for each important keyword that you want to rank for. Use that set of keywords multiple times in each keyword, so that search engines understand that they're the main topic of the article.
While getting a quality domain name is the first step, content is just as important, so make sure it has the right keywords in it.
When you optimize a site for search engines, a good domain name and content that is rich in your targeted keywords should be the most important things for you. If you don't get these two right, your chances of getting the number one spot in search engines decrease considerably.
