For every business venture the business plan must be ready first. A flourishing business is a business that puts the customers� needs first and works very hard to meet them. A professional seller knows that he has to work had for the money. If you plan on winning the jackpot over night then you should try the lottery and not eBay.
On eBay a seller must be patient because in most cases the income starts to show only after a few years.
Before investing a single penny on eBay you should do a detailed research on the Internet. For example, if you love antique object you must learn as much as possible about their pricing, demand and trends. In this game information is your best friend. Only when you know your buyers very well you can start selling items that will meet their needs.
Check out with the local authorities on the local zoning ordinances especially if you�re planning to do everything from your home. There are some areas that imposed certain restrictions and you wouldn't want to violate them with your retail business.
Also, you must register your business because an online store follows the same rules as a real store. If you're the only partner then you must register the business as a sole proprietorship but if you have another partner you must register it as a limited liability. The last step is to register your business and receive your federal tax ID number.
Don�t be afraid to ask your accountant, your lawyer or even the local chamber of commerce for help especially if you have no idea on how to register your company.
You must be very careful not to mix your personal accounts with your business ones because otherwise you risk having problems with your income taxes. Every online seller knows that your eBay profits must be declared on income taxes. Also, when your client lives in the same state as you are you will have to pay state taxes for each trade.
If you want to operate your business sitting comfortably at home you�ll have to learn how to be organized. It's recommended that you use an empty room and fill it with all the necessary equipment such as: computer connected to the Internet, a printer, a quality digital camera and a scanner. Last but not least, you must remember to set up an e-mail account especially for eBay trades.
