How To Pick Keywords

from:

Do you need to learn more about how to pick the keywords that fit your site best? If you want to increase the number of visitors interested in what you're selling, choosing keywords the right way is the best thing you can do to reach your goals. If the search engine optimization you're doing isn't done for the right keywords, you end up wasting a lot of your money, time and energy. You can waste a lot of time if you go after the wrong keywords and it can take a lot of time before you realize it.

The Selection Process For Keywords

It might look hard in the beginning, but once you know how to do it and you have a bit of experience with it, keyword finding is quite easy. The first factor you need to take into consideration is what kind of website you're making. If the site is dynamic, or uses databases, then it's easy to optimize it for a larger number of keywords. However, if the site is static, then the number of keywords you can optimize it for is much more limited. That's why you should know from the beginning for what type of website you're doing the keyword research.

Once you know the answer to the first question, you're ready to start looking for keywords. A static website will do much better if you're using long tail keywords on it, with pages that are well optimized for them. Your site can do much better if you use only one or two keywords and optimize the website for them, than if you would use a lot of keywords. Using a lot of keywords and trying to do search engine optimization for all of them can look like keyword stuffing. However, if the site is dynamic, the number of keywords that can be used increases.

Right down a number of keywords or phrases that go through your head, related to the topic of the website you're making. After you create that list of keywords, use the criteria below to narrow it down.

The length of the phrase

When the phrase is long, chances are that clients that come searching for them are more likely to find what they need. If people are looking for long tail keywords, you can make them clients much easier. That's why you should mostly look at using keywords that are in small enough phrases so that people are actually looking for them when using the search engines. The perfect keywords are those that don't have too many competitors fighting over them and they convert into clients that pay.

Who is the target audience?

When you optimize for keywords, make sure they are used by people that want to buy something and not by people that want just information. Getting a lot of traffic doesn't do you much good if it doesn't convert into sales easily.

That's why you should be looking for keywords that get sales not just a lot of people to your site.
